While working through an issue with another piece of software that uses QS (MSI afterburner), I was pointed to a website that describes how to activate the Intel iGPU adapter without needing Lucid VIRTU running so that Mediacoder (and other programs) can access it directly. This tends to speed up the transcoding process a bit as Lucid is no longer a step in the process and the transcoding is offloaded to the iGPU directly. I have only tested this on my SandyBridge i7-2600K/HD 3000, but it should work for all QS-enabled GPUs, I believe.
The only downside is that the mouse can now extend off of the screen (as there is an imaginary monitor rendering the extended desktop) so you may have to drag your mouse a bit.
Using QuickSync on a Sandy/Ivy? Bridge without Lucid VIRTU

That's awesome!
