AVCHD (1080i) m2ts support

Post by daneel » Sun Jun 17, 2007 7:58 am

I would really appreciate support of AVCHD (1080i) format that is on output of many HD camcorders as .m2ts. It should be some version of MPEG-4.

You mean decoding this format? Have you tried playing it in MediaCoder?

I think this person wants to be able to output a video that works for his HD camcorder.

No, I'd like to convert m2ts (AVCHD 1080i, 1440 x 1080) directly into AVI, for e.g.
I have to first use Sony Picture Motion Browser to convert m2ts into mpg (DVD, 720 x 568) and then use MediaCoder for conversion into AVI (XviD) currently... :(

I've tried, but it hasn't been played correctly.

Are you planning support of AVCHD, which should be a modification of MPEG-4 Layer 10 H.264 (as I've just come to know)?

add m2ts support

Post by hurry » Fri Feb 08, 2008 12:44 pm

Hello Stanley, Please please add support for adding the AVCHD m2ts files from Sony HD Camcorders directly in MediaCoder so that we can convert them to x264 MP4. Presently there is a big quality loss and time loss involved in converting them first to mpg i.e. m2ts -> mpg -> mp4 and it is multi-step process.

AVCHD m2ts is the fast becoming standard in HD Video recording with hard drive cameras and it is the standard video format of Blue Ray DVDs so it will be great if MediaCoder can support m2ts directly (m2ts import) i.e. m2ts -> mp4. We hope MediaCoder can support avchd m2ts soon. Pinnacle, Vegas etc. are already supporting m2ts.

m2ts

I tried a m2ts -> mp4. It does accept a m2ts file. The problem is the audio and video are not in sync at all. The audio is recorded in 5.1ch for m2ts in Sony AVCHD camera like SR1.

I too would love to see AVCHD support for converting the files from my Canon HG10 into something Adobe Premiere understands.

If you need a sample file, let me know and I'll throw one online where you can get it.

audio video sync problem

I tried that. It transcodes it fine though it does not show any progress status. But the audio is totally out of sync with the video in the converted mp4 file from the m2ts file recorded by Sony SR1. I used MP4 H.264 for Video and Nero Encoder HE-AAC V2 for the audio. With Lame MP3 also, there is the same problem with the audio sync.

I can upload a m2s for you if you need to test it. I hope there is solution for this audio video sync problem since m2ts is fast becoming very popular for video recording.
