No Longer Pedantic Bug About task complete dialogue [FIXED]
No Longer Pedantic Bug About task complete dialogue [FIXED]
(ETA - i have found another bug with this which is actually real see post ~#6)
The Input Data Size and Output Data Size are given to a different level of accuracy.
Input Data Size: 175MB
Output Data Size:175.3MB
As a scientist every day for the past few years that has annoyed me.

Re: Pedantic Bug About task complete dialogue
I too have noticed this. And like yourself I am a scientist.
But even worse, I had been one for far longer. Indeed, all my working life I had been a physicist involved in precision and measurement uncertainty. I am now retired.
However, I can no longer be surprised at the non-scientist's arbitrary choice of No of sig. figures and degree of rounding.
Ah well, we move on!

or in your case a ~0.17% difference.
or in your case a ~0.17% difference.
Re: Pedantic Bug About task complete dialogue
Yes, the difference is not significant.
However, the problem is not that they are different but that they are inconsistent.
It would be better (pedantically) if both had been expressed in the same way.
Either to 3 sig figures (or to the nearest 1 or 5 MB) or allow redundancy and express to nearest 0.1 MB.
This is not a Bug and I have wasted enough of the Forum space as it is, so, I shall leave it.

how do you know it's a 0.17% difference? from the numbers i gave you can't even tell which one is bigger.AnonCrow wrote:http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?p ... ost1409868 ,

Re: Pedantic Bug About task complete dialogue
I know when i first posted this bug i was being pedantic. but there is now an actual bug.
Input and output are now actually using different units or calculating it differently. since the update to the new layout.
to demonstrate this i've taken a file and remuxed it. i then remux it again so the input and out put files are exactly the same.
the actual files are both 562 MB (589,594,421 bytes) the output size is out by a factor of 1.024
i think we can probably all see how this happened.

Re: No Longer Pedantic Bug About task complete dialogue
Yes, it's a problem of 1K=1000 or 1K=1024. In 5370, it's the latter.
When things work together, things work.
