What AAC compression to choose for the web?

Post by Andrew3000 » Mon Aug 16, 2010 7:00 am

I want to compress video files to H.264/AAC format, but there are 3 types of AAC format in the Audio section of the MediaCoder - FAAC, CT AAC+, 3GPP AAC+. Which one I have to choose? What AAC type is more compatible?

Thank you. Good information.
MPEG-4 Part 3 aka MPEG-2 Part 7

Does it mean that MPEG-4 Part 3 EQUAL MPEG-2 Part 7? Are those just 2 different names for one format? Or there is a difference?
In MC, when I choose FAAC encoder or CT AAC encoder, there are 2 options of the MPEG version - MPEG 2 and MPEG 4. Which one I have to choose to get most compatible file?

MPEG-4 Part 3 and MPEG-2 Part 7 are not equal, AAC was standardized as mpeg-2_7 later was updated in some ways(wikipedia article)and standardized as MPEG-4_3
You should use the mpeg-4 implementation, in fact, and this is merely a personal opinion, you should use Nero Digital encoder.

For example youtube service use:
LC-AAC stereo - 44.1 kHz - average(variable) bit-rates from 100Kbps---256Kbps depending of the quality of the imagen(1080p/720p/480p)

Nero Encoder is the best AAC encoder for low bitrates. Flash player supports HE-AAC and HE-AAC V2, so you should use them.

You would be surprised by what is possible with HE-AAC V2. Try using around 35kb/s HE-AAC V2.

Don't use HE V2 for bitrates above 45kbit/s, at this point you should switch to HE-AAC (as in V1). Once you get above ~70kbit/s, don't use either HE-AAC. They will only hurt audio quality when used at high bitrates.

Some of these online radio stations use AAC for
streaming, such as this French one. Not sure
which AAC format they use, but very good 44 khz
sound quality at just 32 kbps.
