WinXP reports a problem and closes MediaCoder

Post by terryjeal » Tue May 23, 2006 1:03 pm

On the face of it, this is a very good program. It feels friendlyand easy to use, although I have been unable to convert ANY files. I have downloaded every update, but every time I try to use Mediacoder, Win XP Pro shuts it down after a short while.
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?
Thanks.

What's your CPU? Maybe you can find another PC to run MediaCoder on, as this is really a rare case.

XP pro by default tries maintain integrity of installed programs, so the only way to get it to revert is to uninstall the program. Then reinstall the latest full package. This should solve your problem. Unless you are running a pentium 2 which has problems with most encoders developed after about 2002 or so.

Hi from Charles (itspete).
Windows XP Pro which version (date) etc.
I found this buggy on my other system.
What you can try is to reinstall your codecs as well. Use something like
K1 codecs from www.k-litecodecpack.com
You could also try other codec packs from other people, but make sure
that they are have fully updated content. They all list the versions of
codecs and players including MPlayer etc.

Just check with Microsoft's 'Windows Update' and see if there are any
updates and fixes.

Hope that helps.
All the best
Charles

Hi again.
You may have to set Admin 'permission' to use MediaCoder within windows
Also, have you checked that your firewall has not listed it as a 'no no'.
If that's the case, delete it from the 'do not allow' section.

One other thing..... Does it start to convert and then shut down.
If so, do you get a Windows error report?
Let us know please.
All the best.
