Basic functionality

Hello all, I'm new to Media Coder and have been told that this tool can do everything I want it to (and more).

Essentially I just want to take a few scenes from a few of the DVD's I own (and I stress "own") and combine them into either several .avi files or just burn those selected scenes to another DVD.

What's the best way (and how) to do that?
