Post by Capricorn Angelo » Fri Oct 12, 2007 6:52 am

Hi
I've got a raw video file (codec h264) and I want convert it to an avi, without loose quality. It's possible using this software?

Or I have to convert compressing?
If yes, how?

thanks a lot

(Somebody italian here?)

H.264 will work within the AVI container. You can use the copy video button under Video Tab. But what I'm not sure about is the audio portion of the video. What audio format is it using?

video is h264. No audio (It was a mkv: video h264+audio aac, but I extracted only video). 160 mb.

I want to obtain an avi file that I can elaborate in VirtualDubMod.

In video tab I put/check:
Enable Video
Copy video
Container AVI
Source = ? (auto select?)
Backend = ? (auto select?)

Then I click START, right? How many MB I obtain normally?

thanks for your help :D

Well if there is no audio, you can just copy the video stream. Apply the following settings.

Video Tab
Make sure enable video and copy video box is checked. Then set container to AVI (that's the only option that will be available). Source and backend can be left to auto-select.

Audio Tab
Uncheck enable audio box (you don't have audio anyways).

Picture Tab
Uncheck frame rate box.

When you're done click the start button.

This will maintain the video codec, bitrate, frame rate and resolution.

Yikes!!! It's copying the video as raw video as oppose to copying the original stream. That's why the video is coming out big. Stanley if you're reading this, you might want to fix the copy video option.

Sorry Capricorn Angelo, might want to hold off on this until this is fixed.

You can use H.264 video codecs within MP4, MKV or AVI containers.

Seems to be a problem when AVI container is used. Switch to either MP4 or MKV (Matroska) container. Does that fix the problem?

Using mp4 > 160 mb.

But my problem is: I want to have an AVI file to work in VirtualDUb Mod.

I'm going crazy...

These are original info about my file:

Container [ MKV ] 185 MB
Video [ X264 ] 900 Kbps
Audio [ AAC ] Track 1: 64 Kbps
Audio [ AAC ] Track 2 : 64 Kbps
Subtitle [ *** ] track 1
Subtitle [ *** ] track 2

What I want? I want only video: I used MKVextractGUI to obtain this video (raw: h264). But yet I don't know how to work it in VirtualDub.

Somebody talk about avc2avi but I don't know what it is and how it work...

Please help ... dead man walking...

...
Syntax: avc2avi [options] [ -i input.h264 ] [ -o output.avi ]

-h, --help Print this help

-i, --input Specify input file (default: stdin)
-o, --output Specify output file (default: stdout)

-f, --fps <float> Set FPS (default: 25.0)
-c, --codec <string> Set the codec fourcc (default: 'h264')

-s, --split <pos> MB Specify splitpoint

avc2avi r594 (with GUI).

OGMcleaver include and use avi2avc (modded) - can demux MKV (required mkvextract/MKVtoolnix).

Latest Avidemux build - can open, edit, and save MKV.
Use Rebuild Frames (I & B) option.
Possible problems with A/V synchro (at this moment).

H.264/AVC in AVI container - it's not good idea...
