Hi all,

This Mediacoder is too cool.

But i am having a bit of a problem. my mpeg-1 files are being converted with no video. I have followed the steps given in the Tips & Guides section but still no go.

if i try xvid conversion then i get video also but i really want to use the h.264 coded.

any thoughts?

i tried many variations, with 2 pass, fixed bitrate etc. still nothing. any suggestions?

Sorry, i forgot to add that when i use h.264 codec the video shows up all white in Quicktime but other media players play it back fine. the quality is great. xvid has too much pixellation especially with fast motion or fast cits in the visual

I can't really go down this road further as i don't have an IPod to
test it on. The settings as, as far as I know, correct.

Make sure that you have all the necessary codecs installed.
If not, get the necessary codec from here...

Hi Charles,

i tried EXACTLY what you have posted on the Tips & Guides section.

the problem is that i does not show video in QUICKTIME but VLC media player happily plays it back. would you be able to check it with Quicktime even if you don't have an iPod.

Hi.
Please don't use VLC. That program has 'BUGs' and will play almost
anything, even wrongly coded films etc.
Use Zoom Player, MPlayer, Media Player Classic etc.
Using H.264
First thing I suggest is for you to get the Video with no Audio.
Make sure that Audio TAB-> Encoder is set to NO AUDIO.
Set video TAB->Format to H.264
Container TAB:MP4 with OPTION: left alone.
Audio Codec settings (Bot Right TABS)
set to No Audio TAB
Now convert.
If you get a problem, adjust the CONTAINER TAB->OPTION.
Now here I make a guess....
Switch 'Forces Backward Compatible AAC-SBR' to YES
Now try.
Once you get the video working, do the audio as suggested in the
original settings. It should work.
By the way, I think Quicktime should be .MOV extension not MP4.
Just check that please. What working film extensions do you already have
on your IPod?
Let me know, and I'll have another bash at it, even though I don't have
an IPod myself.
By the way.......
I use 'Media Player Classic' to play both MOV and MP4 files.
You could do the same to check things out first.

Thanks i will try what you suggest. I should mention here that I tried playing back in Media Player Classic and the same problem occurred. NO VIDEO but audio played ok. However, I will try out your suggestion and post a reply again.

By the way, there is no option for .MOV container in MediaCoder. Or do I have an out of date version. I am using ver 0.3.9 build 1902.

FYI the iPod will play files with extensions .mov, .mp4 and .m4v.

QuickTime 7 Pro will automatically create an .m4v file containing H.264 video and AAC audio that is optimized for iPod when using movie export function.

iPod can play the following video formats:

* H.264 video
File formats: .m4v, .mp4 and .mov
Video: Up to 768 Kbps, 320 x 240 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 1.3
Audio: AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 KHz, stereo audio
* MPEG-4 video
File formats: .m4v, .mp4 and .mov
Video: Up to 2.5 Mbps, 480 x 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Simple Profile
Audio: AAC-LC up to 160 Kbps, 48 KHz, stereo audio

Hi Charles:

I downloaded and installed VEMODE and tried to convert a movie. It does a nice job of figuring out a lot of useful information on the source and output. I coverted it into an mp4 with the default settings for the iPod (Xvid codec and 128 kpbs aac). The resultant file plays fine in QT 7 and iTunes doesn't blow up when you import it. However, it doesn't play perfectly on the actual iPod. The sound is fine but the video is choppy at best.

Hi.
Have you tried Bennyda's settings? He's seems to be more on the ball
for IPod.
Like to know what the results are and how they played.

Edit... You can Examine another Freeware program called SUPER.
It does IPod correctly and lots of other things besides.
By the way, that's where I got the settings in the first place.
