DVD to one MPG file: Possible? How?

DVD to one MPG file: Possible? How?
I am brand new to MediaCoder and willingly admit that I know little about video/audio encoding/decoding.
It seems no matter what I do, MediaCoder takes the DVD files (.vob) and creates corresponding .avi files on my hard drive.
I want to copy a DVD movie to one MPG file on my hard drive.
How do I do this? MediaCoder must have this ability. But MediaCoder apparently has so many abilities that I can't figure out how to do this.
MediaCoder V0.3.9 Build 1893
TIA
Charlie
PS - A MediaCoder For Dummies would be nice!

First. If you mean saving a complete disk with menu selection and so on,
into one Mpg that also works with selections etc , then I guess it's No.
I won't go into it, but it requires selections, jumps and all sorts of things.
It's really not needed, when you have DVD\VCD formats.
Second, if you mean just the film to MPG, Oh yes! and quite fast too.
See 'Tips And Guides' at the bottom of the page. This works a treat!
Hope it solves your needs. Let us know how you got on.
All the best

Thanks for the "tip"
But I'm wandering around trying to find the "page" you referenced. It's not this page, it's not the forum home page, it's not MediaCoder's home page and it not the MediaCoder program itself.
So, I give... where's the page with Tips and Guides?
TIA

Hi. It's in the section when you first view this site. Select 'Forum Index'.upchuck wrote:Charles wrote:

Any way... here it is for you.

Thanks so much for the link (http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/forum ... m.php?f=11).
That was what I needed... a cookbook approach At least for now until I can learn more.
The VIDEO_TS directory on the DVD disk contains around 40 files, all with an extension of .vob.
I am hoping MediaCoder can take those files and create one .mpg file.
When I followed your tip (thanks again!) I got 40 .mpg files which correspond to the .vob files.
Anyway to get just one .mpg file? FWIW, I don't care about the menu, subtitle settings, director's comments, outtakes, etc. Just the movie.
TIA

Hi. You need to know what makes up the entire movie without all theupchuck wrote:Thanks so much for the link (http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/forum ... m.php?f=11).

other stuff. Really, I would use something like DVD Shrink to extract
the movie, then use VOB2MPG by ChrissyBoy, which makes an MPEG
of the entire movie. Beware, it can be well over 2.3giga bytes.
That said, try it. They are all listed in 'Tips And Guides' in the
'Helpful Files (Freeware) section.
I'll see if I can also do this with just Media Coder and post results.
