Trimming (Clipping) Playback.

Hi all.
Completely new to MC, but have found it all pretty straight forward. I just have a couple of issues.
Firstly, I've just upgraded my PC but haven't yet installed a new graphics card, It is currently running an old card that has no drivers available for my OS (Win 7).
This hasn't caused any issues whilst playing around with MC except that when setting the time using the Trimming window there is no playback of the selected video. The progress bar moves but no video displays. Could this be a graphics card issue, likely resolved once I install a new card and drivers. Playback of the original video is fine using the Play button to play in a separate full sized window.
Also. Is it possible to use the Trimming option without trying to shoot a moving target (so to speak). In other apps you can drag the progress bar whilst paused and set Start & End times.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
