Xvid to h264 shuddery

Post by ZippyDSMlee » Fri Jan 19, 2007 8:41 pm

Trying to fit a vid collection for archiving to a DVD,there in Xvid with a few having odd vrb audio error,Vdub messes up the audio timing Mediacoder dose it great and even compresses it 50MB less without visual loss I jsut do a direct audio stream copy, but the conversion seems to make the H264 vids shuddery they pause a frame every now and then this confuses the heck out of me,do I need to over haul my codecs?

This might not be the solution you're looking for but I made a guide that makes MP4 AVC (using H.264 codec) video file that was suppose to work on the PSP (which doesn't work). However the video plays fine on the computer using a player that supports MP4. Take a look here

http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/forum ... c&start=12

Ignore the text tab option and PSP conventions guide. You're not outputting to a PSP.

thanks for the help! ^^

Ok the frame rate thing was making it shutter ,kind wish they would toss in a noob friendly mode so you can simple direct quality/size adjusting conversions.

Now that I have it non shuttery I cant find the right video setting in mediacoder in Vdub I set the quality to 30ish and it created nearly perfect conversions of it without losing any qaulity.
the videos are msotly
Video:640 x 480 Xvid at 861 kbp
Audio:MP3 48K 128kbs

I guess I could down audio to 96 theres little diffrance in it,I wish Vdub was updated to handle more audio oddites...off coarse....if I had to I could use mediacoder to convert it to a stable/solid Xvid file then use Vdub to do brunt of the vid compressing work.
altho what I am working on is 52 160-190MB vids 0-o *L* dang I am cheap I'll be happy to stick it on 2 dvds but to have 3 vids on 1 dvd is jsut not right LOL

MP3 96 kbps can be noticeably metallic in sound. I suggest trying MP3 or Vorbis at 112 kbps. Unless you intend to burn to play on a DVD player, in which case stick with MP3.

Vorbis will sound better, even at 96 kbps, but can be more challenging to use - AVI won't support Vorbis, only MKV or OGM.

I am slowly finding the right settings I don't want to fool with audio to much as long as I can shave 10mb off all the files I can fit it all onto a dvd 9.

new problem,I used Vdub to use the H264 coddec but I reinstall a new k light codec mega pack and it cant find the h264 encode code I had...I am going to try and reinstall older klite mega pack to see if its in it.....sigh...

whats a good encoder codec for h264 since I cant seem to find the one I had right now.

the one I had set to 26 could turn a 190MB Xvid into a 140-150MB h264 without losing qauilty, everything Is et on mcoder just dosent seem to work right.
