NO success in using MediaCoder to prep files for Sansa View

Post by Daemon » Sun Jan 20, 2008 6:25 pm

I've got a Sansa View 16gb. Supported formats: wmv, mpeg4 and h264 (there are also referances to it supporting divx, but it seems they mean "the software can convert from divx")

h264 - encodes just fine, plays back on the computer, but the sansa won't recognize it.

MPEG4 - converts the video, then mpeg4info.exe crashes, and i'm left with a video file that has no audio

WMV - doesn't do anything at all... just waits for a while then gives me an error

-----------
I've managed to use another program to get playable files: Any Video Converter Professional, using their Zune settings. However, it's not free, and it doesn't handle subtitles.

The mediacoder "extentions" Zune function does not work - WMV conversion is just as borked using it as it is through the main interface, and it it's "mpeg-4" version is actually xvid.

The working files AVCP generates files have an MP4 extension. MediaCoder lists their container as Quicktime/MOV, the Video codec as MPEG-4 Simple @ L1 and the Audio codec as MPEG-4 AAC LC

-----------

Any help greatly appreciated.

Even though this is an old thread it seems there isn't a solution for the Sansa View as yet - unless I just can't find it. I've tried several combinations and also wind up with the crashing mp4info.exe.

It seems like this is a popular enough player that a solution should exist  I've used AVC to put files on the player but want to preserve the aspect ratio - which AVC won't do.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Have had a little success to get good video and audio for the Sansa Fuze using MediaCoder.

DVD Decrypter does the initial dump from DVD to VOB, painlessly and reliably. Sansa Media Converter 2 is not reliable in bringing the VOB files onto the Sansa device - some chapters simply wont play nice and the aspect ratio is oblivious to 16:9 format.

MediaCoder does this better as an intermediate step. FFMpeg library does a good job of preparing an MPEG4 format in an AVI container, so long as FFMpeg is also the Muxer selected. Other variations seemed to lose my audio channel. I use the 512x288 aspect ratio to give me more pixels than I need for the next step, but at the right aspect ratio.

The resulting AVI is easily processed by Sansa Media Conveter 2 and dropped onto the player. Everything works after that.

Obviously I'd like to output the AVI file directly from MediaCoder to use on the Sansa, but havent got that to work yet. I cant figure out how to get FFmpeg library to output a DivX 5 format, it's not in the format options for Media Coder.

So, what parameters should I use to make a Sansa Fuze readable (and hearable) video files?

The specs of Fuze videos are:

Sound: MP3
--bitrate:128kbps
--no. of channels:2
--sample rate:44100khz

Video Container: Fully interleaved AVI
Codec: MPEG-4 (Simple Profile level 1 or 2)
Bitrate: Up to 512 Kbps
Resolutions: QCIF+ (224x176)
FPS: Up to 20 fps

... the problem here is: if I have for example a 640x480 file, how do I convert it into 224x176? Is the a way to manually tell Mediacoder to make that resolution?

How about when I'm converting 640x360 video?
