Flac to MP3 - Output Files too small/short

Post by Slack » Sat Feb 09, 2008 2:20 am

Just downloaded this Audio edition.
I;ve used the regular edition to do FLAC to mp3 conversion before (at home).
Trying to do this today (at work) with Audio only edition.

Point MC to a folder full of FLACs set encoder to LAME MP3 (192kbits). See estimates of output file sizes are what I'd expect. Start transcode - output files are tiny. Don;t see what I'm doing wrong.

Does MC not come with the LAME codec? Got no warning about it.

The FLACs are fine I'm listening to them now.

I've been having the same problem. I've fiddled with various MediaCoder settings but can't overcome the issue.

I have a folder of FLAC files that I encoder to LAME MP3. When I transcode, it's done very quickly and the output files are small. They're either 1 or 0 seconds when I try to play them. Meanwhile, the original FLAC files work. I can listen to them all just fine.

Am I overlooking something simple? Is this some sort of bug?

A workaround is to set audio source to MPlayer.
When things work together, things work.

Thanks for the advice, Stanley! After I set the Audio tab's "source" to "MPlayer" I was able to convert my Flac files to Lame MP3. Excellent.

Hi, I've tried what's recommended here but I still have problems. I'm running Mediacoder 0.6.1.4085 with the 4085 update.
Settings are:
Encoder: LAME MP3 (Rate mode: VBR)
Resample: Original, Channel: Stereo, Audio ID:0, Gain: 0
First, I tried the Mplayer for Audio source, but I got the no file outputted, last error 011. Then I tried FLAC decoder, which spends some time transcoding (my input FLAC file is about 50Mb) but in the end, it also says not file outputted.
Apart from using LAME to encode, I also tried Helix MP3 and Windows Media Audio (to get wma, not mp3), but those didn't work either.
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

Hi,

First to answer the last question:
WHY RAPE flac into mp3?
Easy: usual mobile devices cannot play .flac files. You suddenly lose the ability to listen to music while being mobile. I prefer the .flac format too though, but no choice there, which is why I compress my .flac files in mp3. :(

That brings me to my question. I'm using MediaCoder 0.6.1.4180, everything set on default, nothing added.

After setting the exit folder in "my documents", remaining settings are:
- Source:MPlayer
- Encoder: LAME MP3 (44100HZ, 320kbps CBR, Stereo, Audio ID:0, Gain: 0dB)

I tried to change the source but nothing worked, every time I get the following message "wrong paremeters for LAME MP3" and then error message 008:

Description: Incorrect audio format settings
Possible causes:
- You may have chosen an audio format that is not supported by the active encoder backend or multiplexer.
Solutions:
- Switch to another audio encoder (thus another audio format)
- Switch to another container format

But I'm still unable to figure out what I did wrong: any one there to help me out? :?:

Thanks a lot!

I have the sane problem when I try to convert my files in FLAC to WMA format.

Does anyone know what is going on?
