So, essentially constant quantizer encoding with most formats/encoders, and constant quantizer or preferably constant rate factor with x264 ?
Encoding with x264 and tuning for SSIM or PSNR would require way too many encodes and produce a visually inferior result than without them.

Why are you using ffmpeg - what format are you encoding into; MPEG2, MPEG4 ASP or AVC (H.264), H.263 ?

What's the actual ffmpeg command-line used ;
does it include '-threads 0' , or some other number that is not 1 ?

Divx Plus HD files are H.264 format video inside MKV container.
