Convert to specific file size feature request.

Post by gamer1978 » Wed Jan 28, 2009 1:30 pm

First I would like to say your program is fantastic works great with hard to convert formats like MKV and video with a variable bitrate wich I think they should BAN.

I was recently converting some video files that were made by different people there fore encoded differently I set the video bitrate to 1000 audio was 128 lame and xvid with container AVI.

And I ended up with files all different sizes from 288mb to 360mb the originals were 350mb.

Could you please add a feature so that you can convert to a specific file size.

That would make this program absolutely awesome.

Files found on the internet that are 350mb are encoded with 2-pass encoding that allocates bit rate depending on need, i.e. fast detailed scenes get more bit rate than static scenes.

Encoding a video at constant bit rate can result in pixellation in faster scenes.

Files that come in undersized, can happen because Mediacoder decides that the video needed less than 1000kbps.

The ones that are slightly larger, well, the calculation of a 43 minute video with 1000kbps and 128kbps mp3 includes overhead, but there is probably margin for error.

There is a file size setting somewhere, but I don't have the most recent build.
