Newbie first post minor problem

Post by DOHC6 » Sun Apr 06, 2014 7:57 am

Hello there:

altho I am a newbie I have been using MediaCoder for a couple of years now with good results when re-encoding existing 264 files. I have noticed that as the versions change the quality seems to get better as well.

One area that I have not needed to make use of up to now but now I do... is the *effects* window,

on a 720p video file that I am trying to correct .....the original video has incorrect gamma/ brightness/ contrast.
They are too high and so the video dark passages appears too washed out. I am attempting to alter these areas by using the *effects* pop up window, but no matter what I enter into the brightness/contrast/colour etc etc on the right side and *apply* to alter the appearance the program does not make the changes for me. The video window that appears with the effects pop up displays and plays the video WITH the changes I have entered to brightness/contrast, I click on *ok* and assume that these are saved but when it comes to the program actually running the process none of the changes I have made take place at all,

What am I doing wrong here? :?:

aaahhhh,,,,,I see, I'm using version 8.28 build 5588 (build date Jan.14),

I take it that this being a recent version it will not support *effects* as the last 32bit version to do so in the list is 5290?

No, build 5290 was simply the last 32-bit version that I had tested.
Then I switched to testing the 64-bit builds and the Effects worked for then up till 5540, which was when I stopped testing - for the reason given in that Report. If there was a bug in the Effects window it probably happened since 5540.
I am happy to stick with 5392 for the reasons given.

I see,

well, I did as mixer suggested & I dl'ed and intalled an older version x86 *5290*, dropping 5588,

my op/sys is both Win7 & XP SP3, Mediacoder runs in both of them, XP has no network drivers & no internet access at all & is where do the majority of my video/audio editing,

after installing 5290 I find I have the same situation, I can access the ^effects* window, make changes in there to brightness/contrast as I choose, I can see those changes take place in the small video screen on the left side of the pane as the video begins to play, I press *apply* radio tab to save changes & *ok* tab and the window closes,

but those changes don't take affect when MediaCoder runs the process I have started,

I'm missing something here to start the effects process?

I just tried the Hue adjustment in build 5600 and in 5150 and the output file was correct.
I used the settings given under Tips & Guides to suit YouTube.

Rob:

look at this photo I've attached, do you see anything wrong there?

is there something else I need to do to get the program to run the *effects* process with the general overall process?

Your MediaCoder is still showing as v5588... Revert to v5392 (which is the best working version according to meRobs' testing) and try it.
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.

^ I've tried the effects package with 5588 (pic), 5290 as suggested, & as well the current version 5603 which is now installed, I still get the same result,

One roblem is that MediaCoder is probably the best video converter out there.
It offers many options with many permutations and combinations, but being free it has no Help feature/file.
The nearest we have is the Tips & Guides section (link below).

This forum is a means by which users help each other. But you can't really expect some users to do the work for you. I don't wish to appear rude but that is the way it is. The succesful use of MediaCoder depends on some experimentation unless the suggestions in the Guides is exactly what you need.

There have been some suggestions above, but have you tried them?
I suggest you go to the Encoding Guide, for example, and set up the suggested paramater values exactly as given for MP4, say, and then try one change in the Effects window. If that works try a bigger or a second change in the effects. If that works, try and adjust the settings on the tabs one at a time as you approach, step by step to what you want for the format etc. As soon as a problem arises read more of the guides. If that doesn't help then get back to the forum and decribe the condition/settings that you tried and the problem. This might trigger some suggestions from other users.
Good luck.
