Converting mkv+other files to h264 fails

Post by br41n » Wed Aug 06, 2008 12:26 am

hi,

i tried to convert (like 3 times) an .mkv file (which plays fine) with Fabio's settings but at the end i got "no file was outputed" message.
I Googled for a solution but it seems there's too much of a 'general' error message and alot of fixes.
As i worked with the settings posted here i was wondering if anybody had this issue with this type of file or know what i could do to fix it.
MediaCoder was just installed 1 hour ago, revered settings and started applying the ones b!nk posted.
The encoding info of the .mkv file are:
Format : AVC
Nominal bit rate : 6000 Kbps
Width : 1280 pixels
Height : 720 pixels
Display aspect ratio : 16/9
Frame rate : 25.000 fps
Format : AC-3
Bit rate : 384 Kbps

Thanks!

I had the latest version available few days ago when i did the test... i see new version is released so i updated.

The problem was not only related to the MKV file but with any file i tried so the subject of the topic is a bit wrong ;)

Anyway I started all over with the latest version of MediaCoder, applied Fabio's settings manually again and it looks like it's working now BUT the problem im facing now is that the resulting mp4 file does NOT play in the flash player (JW FLV Player) which is what im trying to obtain.

Both files (source and resulting encode) play fine in MediaCoder but on the web flash player when i click play it just shows me the loading animation and nothing else, no video/audio/time change.
I have the latest Adobe Flash installed and the JW player works with no problem using Fabio's "Heroes" example so it's most likely a problem with the settings on MediaCoder

I'd be grateful if anyone could help me solve this issue, thanks!

LE: i noticed there's one "small" difference between my mp4 and Fabio's "Hero" example, my codec id says mp42 and his say isom and also "reframes" are 7 for his file and 5 for mine... where can i change so i have the same codec id and "reframes"?

Here is the full file details for
- Fabio's "Heroes" mp4 file

That's the problem... i tried to use the same settings as the examples and JW FLV Player is working with mp4 files but i can't find the reason why my files are not working.
It's not a problem of size/resolution/bitrate/filename as the player works with the majority of it as long as it's a supported file like you listed them.

That's why im asking for help for more experienced people (as i can't seem to find the issue) or from anyone who tried to replicate Fabio's settings and got it to work with a flash player.

The only thing I find troubling is why the outputs codec id (fourcc) is displayed as mp42 (Microsoft’s MPEG-4 version 2 codec). Might have to re-evaulate Fabio's custom preset again.

Try Fabio Sonatti Profile again.

Note: Used Fabio Sonatti's "Heima 720p" video as reference, not Fabio Sonatti's "Hero 720p" video.

ok, tried it again on a fresh install of MediaCoder v 0.6.1 build 4180 but i have the same issue.
I know my english is not perfect so maybe there was a misunderstanding somewhere.
The thing is.. encoding finishes, i have the mp4 file and i can play it in MediaCoder just fine BUT i can NOT play it with any web flash player.. on the web, just like Fabio's examples.
Did you tried to put a video resulted from using those settings on the web?
That's what im trying to do...

Tested JW FLV Media Player 4.1 using Fabio Sonatti's Profile in MediaCoder. The sample output video played in my Firefox browser without a problem.

Can you re-post the videos details of your output video? Something is not adding up.
