Xvid/DivX with CUDA

Post by Lothar » Thu Jan 24, 2013 1:01 am

My grandpa has a TV wich can playback Xvid/DivX-Avi's. I have to encode DVB-Streams from MPEG 2/4 to
Xvid/DivX quiete often (for his archive), but sadly Mediacoder uses CUDA only for H.264-codec. I would be
very happy if Xvid/DivX would be able with CUDA (because I suppose encoding will be much faster).

Regards,
Lothar

That unfortunately, is not possible. CUDA is hardware-level encoding, meaning that until nVidia builds into their GPU the ability to handle Xvid/DivX, no programmer/developer can do anything about it. Also, only H.264 is supported by CUDA, no other codec is supported.
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.
