No bitrate settings work except quality based

I'm using the latest version (0.7.2.4560), but I get the same results with any (I have like 20): when I encode any video to any format and try to adjust the bitrate for either constant bitrate, average bitrate, 2-pass or 3-pass, no matter what values I enter I end up with the same file, same size and same bitrate. I tried every possible combination between source and encoder but nothing changes. Here's what happens: I get the same if bitrate is set to either 1000 or 4000 kbps; I get one insignificantly higher than the previous if set to 8000 or 16000 (that's 8000 kbs of difference!); passed 16000 i get a bitrate even lower than the first one!!!

This are the setting I use (from default):

Format: xvid default (or any format)
Mode: Quality-based (now average bitrate) is the only one that works but the one that looks the worse.
Source: Auto select (or any one, i get the same problem anyway)
Encoder: Auto select (ditto as before)

Audio: ffmpeg ac3 224 kbps Auto Select Source (the audio has nothing to do with it)

Container: avi (or any)
Multiplexer: ffmpeg (or any)

Or any, or any, or any.

WHAT IS IT!!!

I like Mediacoder a lot, so i'd hate to start looking for a new one (I hate shopping).

Hi, Demetrio!

This seems to be the same problem I described here: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=8052.

So please, click on the "Advanced" button at the XviD-tab on the right side and search in the list for "Quantitizer Type". The default value of that option is set to H.263. Please, change it to MPEG. If you have difficulties in changing read my linked post above (hint: keyboard, not with the mouse!).

That has helped me.

Thanks for your help, Ulf; unfortunately it did'nt change anything: still the exact same problem. Plus, it's not just with xvid. Shouldn't have this , after all the releses of Mediacoder, been fixed by now?

I just tested xvid encoding with the latest version and everything seems fine.

I just tested it too in 4570 and 4572 and the same old story:

2-pass at 5000kbps = 11MB + 3072kbps;

2-pass at 10,000kbps = 11MB + 3072kbps;

2-pass at 16,000kbps= 11MB + 3072kbps.

And the same with average bitrate, constant bitrate, 3-pass, xvid, mpeg-2, h.264; with an avc file, mpeg-2 file, xvid file...

VARIABLE BITRATE IS THE ONLY ONE THAT WORKS! HOW CAN IT JUST BE ME? If it is, then what could it possibly be?

When you tested it: did every time you changed the bitrate parameters the resulting bitrate changed as well (thus file size).

Yes am having the same problem with xvid 2 pass encoding to bitrate above 5000 kbps

I have the some problem. The bitrate settings for x-vid doesn't work properly.
