Essentially, if I save the settings, change the bitrate, then load the settings, the bitrate does not revert.
The case I have confirmed this for is MC 0.7.0 using FAAC audio. But I think others have this problem too.

I've just tested the stability of the audio bitrate for Presets that I use, for example, with IMA ADPCM. It works!!
However, it may appear not to be so.
If the bitrate on the audio tab is changed to a value different from that of the Preset and the Preset is reloaded, the displayed bitrate did not change.
However, this is because the value on the Audio tab was not refreshed!
If when I changed to the Video tab, say, and returned to the Audio tab, the bitrate was displayed correctly (as per the Preset)!
I suggest (nosignal) that you try this.
