I realize that Mediacoder is "free" and that usually beggars can't be choosers.

I would be willing to 'contribute to' or 'register' a version of Mediacoder minus all the automated web browsing and update checking browser launching baloney.

I realize there must be a reason why the developers want to know every time I run their software and take a peek at what version I'm using, what I'm using it for etc, but I would prefer to do my own web browsing and update checking as I feel the need, not every time I run the ap or transcode a file.

Turn off updates, the thank you page, and set it to connect only locally then.

I think it's really overrated to call that kind of behavior spyware though.
Cause it only checks for updates etc and doesn't submit any data of what is on your pc, what you are using it for and so on.
And you can turn all of those things off in the settings dialogue...

Exactly where do you turn off automatic checking for updates?

Go to File --> Settings

MediaCoder Preferences
Overall --> Generic --> Ignore Build = Enter Current Build Number (Last 4 digit you see in MediaCoder title bar)

There is no spyware. No user information is collected during update checking.
