DPG (Nintendo DS Homebrew Video Format)

Post by freebie » Sun Nov 18, 2007 10:05 pm

Hi

If possible, could you add support for DPG encoding for Nintendo DS flashcards? This is played using a Nintendo DS media player called Moonshell - more information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MoonShell

There is software called BatchDPG which works to a point, but sometimes gets messed up as it used DirectShow codecs. The SUPER media converter works OK using it's own internal codecs, but I'd rather use Mediacoder over SUPER any day of the week!

Adding this functionality would also mean all major mobile formats are supported.

Thanks again

OK, I will add support for DPG when I have time. I've found some useful info to do this.

I second that idea. SUPER doesn't work well, at least for me, and MediaCoder is an awesome all-in-one solution that does the job even better than commercial softwares. I'll be watching for an update on this :)

Oh, and here some informations about the DPG format

Use MPEG-1 (mencoder can do it) as the video stream, which should have between 15 to 24 FPS. It is mandatory that the video size has a width of 256 pixel. The maximum height is 192 pixels, but is not mandatory to have 192 pixels.

The audio use MP2 audio stream (twolame can do it), bitrate can be between 32kbps to 128kbps, Smaple rate is fixed to 32768Hz, use Joint Stereo and the sound is preferably normalized.

Do to the Nintendo DS limited resource, the audio and video bitrate sum should never go higher than 512kbps.

The DPG2 format use GOP (Group Of Picture) to quickly resume playback when scrolling the video progression bar.

An average DVD is about 260 MB in size after being converted to a DPG.

Sorry for the delay but I have too much work to handle at the moment. I will keep it in mind.
