"mp4box.exe has stopped working"

Post by flcowboy7 » Wed Apr 30, 2014 3:40 pm

mp4box.exe has stopped working

Conversion fails when using Generic Mobile Phone plugin (MTS to MP4).
When attempting to use the UI plugin, it processes the file all the way to the end and then I get the error per the title of my post. (Attached screen shot).

I've noticed some other posts about this error message, but they don't seem to be related, as far as I can tell.

This happens with both MediaCoder 0.8.29.5608 as well as the x64 version.

I've attached the console output and the source file info for references, but I've expunged personal information (using the {} brackets). (Had to append my post with this info, since *.txt attachments are not allowed here).

I thought that perhaps one of the MediaCoder files was conflicting with another program (based on some research), so I am including here a list of other potential installations on my PC that may use similar files. I made sure they were all up to date, just in case, but that didn't seem to help.

Sorry for posting way too much info, but I'm hoping it's helpful.
Any guidance would be much appreciated! :?

Followup - (would have posted sooner, but had to wait for OP approval).

OMG, do I feel dumb now. So, I researched the exception code from the crash report "Exception Code: c0000005" and determined this is a Windows Access Violation error.

So, just for sh*ts and grins, I tried running MediaCoder "as Administrator" and tried conversion again. Guess what? Conversion had no errors.

So, while I'm overjoyed that I am able to resume my conversions, I'm wondering now why several versions ago (this has been ongoing for some time), I never ran into this problem. Maybe there was a Windows Update that changed how programs are accessed by default, or something?

PS - I'm on Windows 7 Home Premium SP1.

Regards!

EDIT: I had gotten this to work with the x86 version.

mp4box has been updated recently in latest release. Maybe you can try using an alternative mp4box.exe

I'm not exactly sure how I would go about doing that? I had finished the conversions I was working on after my original post and today, even when "Running as Administrator," I am getting the same error again. I see there is a new version of MediaCoder (0.8.30.5620), so I'm in the process of downloading it now.

EDIT: This started happening with the still installed x86 version from my 2nd post.

Still not working with 0.8.30.5620 (neither the x86 nor the x64 versions). I'm using the "Run as administrator" option - but that doesn't seem to be helping anymore. Not sure what has changed...

Update: In the container tab, for MP4, I chose "Auto Select" for the Multiplexer, and it converted just fine. That was the only change I made.

Changed it back to "Enabled" and selected "MP4Box" (the default) and tried it again, just for a test: it didn't fail.

Now I'm REALLY confused. So sometimes it will fail, and other times it doesn't. Oi vey!

Installed both the x86 and x64 versions of C++ Redist Update 4. Installed the latest version of MediaCoder (8.30.5622 x64).

Now the transcoding doesn't even get half way and I get the same crash.
