Build 5002 sometimes gives 4-channel audio for stereo[FIXED]
When using the settings for MKV in the Encoding Guide (viewtopic.php?f=17&t=9643), ie, Xvid video with LC-AAC audio (stereo) the output file has 4-channel audio!
4-channel audio also happens when converting the same VOB file to MPEG2 (settings in the Encoding Guide) but with "Copy Video" set.
The output audio is 4-channel AC3 yet set for conversion to stereo AC3.
With video encoded instead, and all else the same, the audio is correctly encoded (stereo AC3).

Hi,
it does gives 4 channel audio sometimes when using nero encoder

Re: Build 5002 sometimes gives 4-channel audio for stereo
What's the exact settings on audio tab?
The old preset might be a bit incompatible with the new version.

Re: Build 5002 sometimes gives 4-channel audio for stereo
I use the preset for 4799 and check that the settings are the same as those in the Encoding Guide, as I mentioned above.
For MKV, the audio settings are Encoder = Nero, Format = LC-AAC at 128 kbps, Source = Auto and Resample = 44.1.
For the MPEG2, the audio Encoder = FFmpeg, Format = AC3 at 128 kbps, Source = Auto and Resample = 48.
The MKV gives 4-channel output.
And the MPEG2 also gives 4-channel (AC3) but only when Copy Video is checked.

I cannot reproduce this problem on my end.
Please paste the media info of output file.

Re: Build 5002 sometimes gives 4-channel audio for stereo
NOTE: to create the MKV file I had to set Bypass as Video Source!
Use of MEncoder as source gave 0 kB output and FFmpeg caused Pre=processing to hang up!
Also, Stop > Finish Current Job took too long (froze for a minute or so) and had to close the GUI down!
please fix!

Re: Build 5002 sometimes gives 4-channel audio for stereo
If you can encode to one format with one video source, there is no reason you can't encode to another format with it. I think forcing video source to bypass by be the fact that causes the problem. On my end however, all video sources work with VOB files.
When things work together, things work.
Re: Build 5002 sometimes gives 4-channel audio for stereo
Yes that seems reasonable.
Indeed, if you look at the Encoding Guide (viewtopic.php?f=17&t=9643), you will see that 5 of the 7 conversions suggest MEncoder as video source and only 2 NEED Bypass.
The two are for the Xvid format.
For Xvid, I have had to use Bypass since build 4760. Use of MEncoder fails.
So, I agree: I need Bypass to get Xvid for MKV and I also need it for Xvid in AVI.
It sounds as if you didn't try these two conversions.
That's a pity because if you can't confirm the bug you can't fix it and I shall have to continue advising people to use these settings in the Encoding Guide.
Thus, if the Encoding Guide is incorrect, it will remain so!
Moreover, the 4-channel outcome also occurs for MPEG2 conversions, but, only when Copy Video is checked.
This conversion does not use Bypass. So, it cannot be blamed for the problem.
So, once again, maybe you hadn't tried to duplicate this conversion.
Please look at the Encoding Guide. If you don't, no advance can be made.
