I'm trying to convert my broadcast-over-the-air-HD (1280x720), scaled to 720x480, with 5.1 AC3 sound into h.264 using the CUDA encoder. With
6+ hours into this
, I've giving up. It seems I can have some measure of success encoding the video, and other times the audio, but I cannot get them to play nicely together and sound good on my external audio receiver (by playing the video through my PC thru mediaporal).
Basically, I want:
- 1280x720 scaled to 720x480
- CUDA encoded
- h.264 video
- full 5.1 sound (assuming AC3?) so I can feed the audio through my SPDIF so my audio receiver can handle the rest
Surely someone has done this, and perhaps has a profile/advice they can share? Handbrake is able to produce an .avi that is encoded with h.264 and AC3 (though no ability to use CUDA).
Thank you.

Try copying the Audio instead -
Go to the Audio Tab, and Tick 'Enable Audio' and 'Copy Audio'
- you've already, as stated, got 5.1 AC3 audio with you Video... so why re-encode it?
