What I meant by setting a custom resolution was basically go to the Picture tab and hit the Resize button, and set the resolution that I want my output file to be. I also do this on version 5608 and it rarely crash.

Using the settings you outlined before, I managed to transcode 10 files before I got a x265 crash, resulting in an error 14. I can only surmise that the newer version has a bug somewhere which is not surprising given that the HEVC spec itself is not yet finalised. I would suggest that you simply stay with v.5608 and occasionally check the newer versions to see if the issue exists or not.
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.

Alright, thanks for testing it out. I'd love to try transcoding more with the newest version, but I don't have the best cpu in the world, and the crash is very random in when it occurs. Having it crashes after elapsing for an hour is kinda frustrating :(

Truthfully, I wouldn't really recommend H265 right now. Despite being a working draft spec with good quality/filesize ratio, it takes longer to encode than H264. Not to mention it doesn't seem to support multi-pass encoding yet either...

Hmmm...I had the opposite problem. When I installed the update, my version reverted from Premium to Trial. So I'm back to math quizzes! :)

But my first H.265 encoding (of a standard music video) is half the size of the original, took only 2X playtime to complete, and looks better than the DVD!

Hi,

I have tested and Works fine. In my case, was 0,20x in FullHD movie (core i5 4200M 2.5Ghz, Windows 8.1 64bits)

Original file: H264/AVC - .MOV 21mbps, 1'00" 1920x1080 30p size 190MB

Output file: H265/HEVC - .MKV 1mbps, 1'00" 1920x1080 30p size 12MB ===> took 5 minutes longer to encode (which was the same I had with DVIX converter)

Thanks
