Progressive Segmented Frame video problems!

Post by Stears555 » Wed Jul 24, 2013 9:06 pm

Hello guys!

My camcorder record in progressive segmented frame mode, I always liked that most encoders transcoded the Progressive segmented videos into a real progressive output. However 0.8.22.5522 version was the last which did it. New versions encode them only in "MBAFF" scan , which is not a real progressive format

What does Progressive segmented frame mean?

Thank you for your help & reply!

Do you have any solution?

I would like to transform my Progressive segmented frame videos into real progressive output. It was originally the traditional way. Most of the serious trans-coders give this option for the users.

Thank you for your reply!

Dear Stanley! THe progressive Segmented Video is a progressive material in interlaced container. A progressive frame is divided into two segments, with the odd lines in one segment and the even lines in the other segment. Technically, the segments are equivalent to interlaced fields, but unlike native interlaced video, there is no motion between the two fields that make up the video frame: both fields represent the same instant in time.

Therefore all deinterlacing process effectively reduces the visible spatial resolution in half! Therefore it means "quality-death" for the progressive segmented frame videos.

Stanley, Have you got any solutions for this very basic deficiency in the software?

Hello Stanley!

There are no progress in this field. Users can choose the "scan-type"of video output in most other transcoders. (progressive interlaced etc...)

Can you fill this huge gap in the next edition??

Thank you for your reply!
