Bitrate error.

Post by arifi » Wed Feb 20, 2013 4:56 pm

I recentley downloaded the last version of Mediacoder. When i transcode an mkv file to an mkv file with permanent subs, the bitrate becomes very low.So when i choose 12800 kbps on the video tab next to videobitrate, the transcoded mkv has 12,8 kbps instead of the chosen 12800 kbps.I had this weird issue with an other version of Mediacoder. And now this problem exists also in the last version 0.8.18.5360.
Somehow Mediacoder mistakes kbps with mbps.
I use ''video bitrate'' and ''constant bitrate''.
Maybe someone had/has this problem too and perhaps can help?

Thanks.

What happens if you set Average Bitrate?

Still the same with average bitrate. It gives 12,8 kbps instead of 12800 kbps.
have you ever seen this problem with a version of Mediacoder?
I have seen it in another version too. Can't remember what version it was.
What i did then was just go back to a lower version. And it worked good.

As mentioned in one of the Guides (section 2 in viewtopic.php?f=17&t=11978), as the set bitrate is increased the actual value achieved tends to plateau out.
It level off at a maximum for that encoder/format. The exception was the H.264 format (x264 enocder).

I just tried a conversion from VOB to MKV using the settings given in the Encoding Guide for MKV in build 5355 (Premium).
On increasing the bitrate the output file plateuaued at 6402 kbps, in my case.
In other words, all settings at and above 8000 kbps gave 6402 kbps.
I tried 10000, 12000, 15000 and 12800 kbps.

Are your video settings much different?
What happens if you try the suggested setttings?
Have you tried another large value, such as 10,000 or 12,0000 kbps?

My settings on the ''video tab'' are
Format : H.264
Encoder : Cuda encoder
Source : Avisynth .I always use Avisynth when i burn subs into MKV or MP4.

The weird thing is whatever bitrate value i fill in,the result is always the same.
So for instance when i fill in 10000 kbps it returns with 10 kbps. When i use 12000 kbps it returns with 12 kbps.
Under the value of 10000 kbps it always returns with bps instead of kbps.So when i use 9000 kbps the result is 9000 bps.

I just tried the x64 version of 5355 Premium.
I began with the settings for MKV as given in the Encoding Guide, then, changed the Format to H.264, the Cuda Encoder and AviSynth as Source.
A bitrate of 12000 kbps gave 11.8 Mbps. Hence, looks OK

When I get the chance I will try the normal build 5360.

I switched to a different drive where I have the latest MediaCoder, x64 version of 5360.
As before, I used a Preset to set the settings for MKV as per the Encoding Guide, then, I changed to H,264 via the Cuda encoder and set the ABR to 12,000 kbps with AviSynth as source. This gave error 15.

So, I changed the video 'Source' to MEncoder as suggested in the Guide, and it worked, giving an MKV output file with video at 11.7 Mbps.
Finally, I loaded an MKV source file with one Subtitle stream abd set Subtitle Mode to A-S-S.
This gave an MKV output file with video at 10.5 Mbps.

So, all looks good!

I suggest you follow the above steps exactly and report what happened.
