MediaCoder Internal Player Problem...

Post by Mosco » Sat Nov 06, 2010 10:47 pm

Hi all.
Sorry, i have a noob problem playing video files with mediacoder: when i select a video in the work list and i click on the blue "Play selected item" button it doesn't work. A little player-like window called Mplayer seems to open-up, but it immediately closes. I'm using MC full version 0.7.5.4742. Any help?

Please check whether (1) your file plays in another player like VLC and (2) try playing another file in MediaCoder's MPlayer.
By another file, I mean one of a different type or from a different source and, by the way, VLC is an easily obtained freebie.
Thanks

I have k-lite codec pack installed, and it plays all video files that i have. I try playing other video files with mediacoder, but nothing seems to work. Sound files, instead, work. This is strange... however thank u.

Ps I use Mediacoder for transcoding video files, and it's really useful. I have troubles with video files of huge dimensions, but this issue is discussed in other threads. :P

MPlayer is really a very bad player.
If you want to view video, better to use other players like VLC Player or KMPlayer.
I think the only useful function of MPlayer is to set the beginning and ending of video cut. However, it usually has problem on seeking to correct position. The position slider can jump itself back and forth and it's hard to set correctly.

MPlayer is an excellent player. One GUI for it is SMplayer which I use as an equally good alternative to VLC.
If a file doesn't work (Play, Cropper, Clipping & Effects buttons) in MediaCoder it will most likely be due to how it is implemented in MediaCoder.
For example, the Trim function that ray_bk refers to -- it doesn't work well in some builds (see Test Report) because of how it is 'connected' (addressed) in MediaCoder.

Mosco: I have rarely ever seen a file that MPlayer will not play via the Play button. One useful function of MPlayer is that if a file "Play"s, MediaCoder can convert it, in principle. Hence, if it plays and a conversion fails, it will be due to inapproriate settings!
In your case, I suggest you move to a different build of MediaCoder. If you look at the Test Report on builds (link below), you will see that build 4797, the latest, has the best score!
