Tests on MediaCoder builds

Post by meRobs » Sat Sep 11, 2010 10:12 pm

Beginning with build 4700, various builds of MC shall be tested for functionality shortly after their release.
There are eleven functions tested, including Cropping, Trimming, Copying streams, Joining videos and video Effects, etc.
This does not include the testing of particular Video/Audio formats or presets, etc, just the functions.

The ongoing Report is here: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=9611.
I have included data on builds 4399, 4582 and 4640 for comparison.

To maximise the usefulness and veracity of the results, we need your constructive comment. So, please read the latest report and post your comments below.

The report is one of the many Tips & Guides that are listed here: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=8061.
It is placed there rather than at the start of this Topic so as to avoid clutter arising from any posted comments and, thus, avoid possible confusion.
More importantly, it will give the comments more weight.
I will certainly read these comments and modify the report where useful.

Thank you.

I am impressed with this comprehensive report. It is definitely helpful to me. Thanks for your effort.
BTEW: I think we should let people comment on it, so I unlocked this post.

[Edit]: stanley, I have moved the original post to a Sticky within the Tips & Guides group, for the reasons given above.
Thanks

Hi,
thank you merobs for your efforts you did a hell of a job.
As far as i know none of this build above support actual Audio/Video copying of wmv9
no matter which source or encoder you use it does not actually copy without encoding

Thanks for the comment.
As far as I know the only build that supports encoding to WMV9 is 4399.
Do you agree?

what striked me is to see in the table that copy av worked in all... then read the very surprising condition that failing to copy audio is not a failure. a bit strange, especially when i saw that for video effects the criteria is exceptionally high, even though it is mainly usefully working for me (only once used and only contrast), and the copy audio never did :D

aaa3: Yes, it is somewhat inconsistent!
This was due to limiting the number of tests I have to do, and the time it takes. I have had to limit myself to the MPEG2 Preset, in most cases, realising that those tests that pass may fail for other containers. I had to stop somewhere.

I will have a look at adding ' Copy V only' and 'Copy A only' ?
I had thought that copying both was the most important (most sensitive to changes in quality) and that copying only the audio was not important because it would save little time, etc.
'
Maybe also columns for 'Video Effects A' (the first group -- Brightness, etc) and 'Video Effects B' (the gammas) ?
