Only getting 30 seconds of audio when converting MKV to Xbox

Post by xrave » Sun Jul 25, 2010 2:51 am

Greetings, I have tried searching the forum but could not find information regarding my problem. I have found similar ones but nothing has worked.
I have a 720p MKV, video is AVC and Audio is AAC. I am trying to convert so it will play on my Xbox 360, ( MP4 ). I copied my preset that I use below, this preset has worked many times before with no problem on my other computer but I got a new one and it doesn't seem to work. I realize at this point that it could be a codec problem however I have installed the Divx codec onto my system and still out of a 30 minute video I am only getting about 30 seconds of audio. Any advice you could give me would really be helpful, thank you.

As you can see from: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=8521&start=0, one of the Guides in the Tips & Guides section (link below), a Preset that works in one build of MediaCoder may not give the same results in another!

Hence, you have more chance of getting help if you indicate the Build number of the version you are using, eg, the latest is build 4703, and:
(1) indicate the tab settings for Video, Audio and Container and
(3) indicate the parameters you are aiming for. Which format, etc, will your Xbox support?

As for MP3, MediaCoder is a converter not an audio editor.
It can trim, change the audio gain (volume level) and change its sample rate etc.
For editing try something like GoldWave (costs a little) or Google for a freebie.

Thank you, sorry for leaving out the version i was using 0.7.5.4703. I recently just fixed the problem after about 30 or so different times. Turns out I had video on constant bitrate, which produced no sound after about 20 seconds. After switching to average bitrate the sound came out perfect in my conversion from MKV to MP4 to play on the xbox360. I will post a working preset in the preset forum.

Xrave,

Is there anyway you could post your settings that you are using? I am having this same problem at first I got only 30 sec or so now I changed some things and on an hour video I get about 45 min of sound and then it cuts off. I dont know what I have wrong. I am using the average bitrate on sound but I have to have something else wrong. How many kbps are you using? Would that even make a difference?

Try the settings tabulated for MKV or MP4 in the encoding Guide (viewtopic.php?f=17&t=9643) and read Note 9!
