Which edition should I choose for the Nokia N900 (800x480) with which settings?
It can play a lot of different containers but I am looking for nearly no quality loss with smaller or equal size compared to the source video and some videos in higher resolutions with Xvid cannot be played smoothly which means I have to convert them.

Which edition? That depends on your needs, but, I would suggest the Full edition (more options).
Quality with small file size means using an efficient Codec and a sufficiently high bit rate.
