Desktop player compatibility (for Divx/Xvid)

Post by molngab » Sun Apr 25, 2010 3:37 am

Hello!

I download very often from net different movies in avi format (xvid/divx).
I watch them with my desktop divx player. Or, sometimes, I only try watch them.
If the xvid/divx avi contains a special encoding option - GMC, quarter pixel etc.- my desktop player can't play them.
My question: which is the easiest way to convert these special avi files to desktop-compatible avi-without fully recompression?

Thanks!

If your desktop player is like a standalone, then the only way to remove, GMC, some incompatible Custom Matrices or Qpel is to recode. Non-square pixels can be altered with MPEG4Modifier and no recode.
