Convert MOV to M4V using Mediacoder?

Post by pmpodcast » Thu Apr 02, 2009 11:03 pm

All,

I have around 80 *.MOV files that I need to convert to *.M4V. I looked around in Mediacoder but I was unable to see a way to do this.

Am I just blind or is this task not possible through Mediacoder?

Thanks for the feedback!

These files are meant to be viewed as a Videocast on your iPod. If they are not in M4v then iTunes will not synch them to your device.

What if just convert (or re-mux) to MP4 container and change file extension to .m4v?

I am new to video, so I don't understand the term re-mux. And renaming it to *.M4v to me sees like taking a VW bug and slapping a BMW logo onto the front and now claiming that you are driving a BMW... no?

If this MOV files contain AVC video and AAC audio, just copy A/V streams to MP4 container.

M4V it's slightly modified MP4 container.
Almost same, just with some additional infos in the header - also, possible DRM.
However, it's still MP4 v2 / MP4 Base Media v1 - similar as F4V.

Well, check MP4 container and M4V file extension. Maybe...

MediaCoder have preset for iPod, unfortunately is some wrong in latest build.
Can try some older MediaCoder build.
MediaCoder 0.6.1.4116 for example.
Extensions > Digital Media Players > Apple iPod

Or... Just use MediaCoder iPhone/iPod Edition

Other...
Can use FFmpeg from command line or MPEG Streamclip (this tool use QuickTime).
