Cropping

I have several AVI files that are in widescreen format and want to crop the edges to fit a 16:9 TV (ratio 1.77). Have tried many combinations but transcoded file is always same width as original! anyone know how to do this please???

Ctrl+F6 to call out the cropper.

Thanks Stanley but I did that setting the ratio to 1.77, centered the image, checked on the picture tab that the co-ordinates were as on the crop editor and set it off; in the output file the resulting image was same as in input file. Dont Want to change/convert just crop. Is this possible without converting?
