What's MSVCR71.dll? (Visual C++ runtime)

Post by Pely » Mon Feb 02, 2009 7:21 am

I'm hoping someone can tell me why MSVCR71.dll isn't on my machine and if I can run MediaCoder without it. I get an error message when I start the application saying this file is missing. I'm running the latest XP.

It's part of the Microsoft Visual C++ runtime library. MediaCoder uses Visual C++ as part of the programming.

First install the Visual C++
Then install MediaCoder

If you have MediaCoder currently installed, then use your "Add/Remove" programs to un-install it. Then shutdown and restart Windows. After your computer restarts, install MediaCoder again.

See if that works.

It's still giving me the same error--uninstalled, installed C++ runtime, rebooted, installed Media Coder, started Media Coder.

:!:

What else can I tweak?

Thanks,

Pete

If you know how to search for a file, type in: MSVCR71.dll and search for it on your machine. There should be several copies of it. One should be in the C:\Windows\System32 directory. If not, you can copy any of the others and paste it into that directory.

I have no idea if this will help.

That totally works.

Looking at the previous posts and the information that MSVCR71.dll should be in C:\WINDOWS\system32, I found that MSVCR71.dll was already there. In my machine it was in C:\WINDOWS\system32\URTTemp
Since it is there why won't MediaCoder install correctly? I still get the error message that it can't find MSVCR71.dll. What do I do now? Where do I need to place it?

Please tell me where it needs to be and I'll copy and paste.

Do not worry if your computer shows a dll missing error, You can easily download the dll file from https://unfitpc.com/msvcr71-dll and after that carefully save the file settings. It will be helpful i am sure.
