How large can an input file be?

Post by mart_o_rama » Wed Aug 23, 2006 4:38 am

I saw a post mentionning that the max input file size is 2GB, is that right?

I have several large MPGs between 3GB and 10GB that I want to recompress in XVID, Media Coder works fine for the smaller files, but when I input one of these large files, they are reported as a smaller size and much shorter duration. Will they process ok anyway?

Otherwise, does anybody know of a workaround?

Thanks for nay help,

Mart

Just try it and ignore the reported file size.

Hi Stanley, do you mean that MediaCoder can process file greater than 2GB now?

What is the result, can you convert those big files sucessfully? Hope you feedback, because file size limitation is the main reason for not using MediaCoder myself.

Transcoding now, file size estimate looks ok (2hr movie: 650MB in H.264 @800kbps).

Will post the result.

cheers,

Hi all,

Well it worked!

Besides the reported original file size, everything else worked fine. I was transcding a 9.33GB mpeg2 file (a recorded show with my htpc, the recording quality was not set properly at DVD max quality, obviously too muh for analog cable tv input) and it took 255mins to encode in H.264 with a final file size of 694MB.
