MediaCoder won't start up

I'm running an Athlon XP processer, so the SSE support version should work, as it did with previous versions/builds. But after Friday's update this is what I get evertime I launch Mediacoder 0.5.1 with ot without the i686 update:

Help!

I've made no system modifications before, during, or after the update. I'm only having this problem with Mediacoder 0.5.1.

Have you tried removing the previous installation completely and then perform the installation?

Yes. Uninstall, deleted Mediacoder folder from Program Files folder, re-installed. Same crash everytime, same point in time, at launch.

Update: current ver/build (0.5.1 build 2405) installs and runs fine on my P4 system at my job. My Athlon XP system at home is where the trouble has been with ver. 0.5.1.

I think I've found the cause. The crash is due the competition of two threads, main thread and the update checking thread.

A workaround:
Open prefs.xml and replace

<node key="checkUpdate"/>

with

<node key="checkUpdate" value="false"/>
