Slow Encoding

Post by andrema2 » Sat Dec 29, 2007 8:34 am

Hi, I'm new at this so please bear with me.

I'm encoding a RMVB file to my Itouch. I can see that the FPS on doesn't go as higher as 30 FPS. It is almost as the playing speed.

I'm using a H.264, 512 rate and lower quality in sound. I tried also with 384 with almost the same results.

My PC is a Core 2 Duo 1.86 with 2 Gb RAM RAID0 disks and XP.

What can I do to speed it up ? With Xvid4PSP I could get at least twice the speed.

Thanks

check that any filter or any apllication is working as background.
may be that is eating cpu.
or else
when encoding check how much is cpu used.

It's using no more than 50% or 60% of CPU.

In the settings it is set to use 100%

That's actually not that slow. X264 is a very demanding codec. But for the speed drop you get a lot of extra accuracy and quality over codecs like xvid.

I have a Core2Duo at 2.56 ghz and converting is only a bit faster (with comparing settings) so your results are not that bad.

If you want to trade quality for speed you can use the x264 extension (extensions->other devices) and change some of the settings (the extension provides some explanations). But If you want good quality you shouldn't do that.

Setting the video source and backend to mencoder in the video tab can help to utilize all of your computers cpu resulting in faster encoding speeds.
MediaCoder settings:

x264 (backend/source: mencoder, fps: 23,976, Fabio Sonatti's settings) + nero aac 64 in matroska

Shouldn't it eat all my processor then ? Why it keeps around 50% ? Going higher wouldn't I get a faster result with the same quality ?

As I said, try to use Mencoder both as video source and backend, it works better with DualCores.
MediaCoder settings:

x264 (backend/source: mencoder, fps: 23,976, Fabio Sonatti's settings) + nero aac 64 in matroska

can some one say to me (or show) if there are any option you change on to Encode 4 files.
My problem is that i have imported a folder with 4 files in. thay 4 files i wane have to 1 big file, and maybe have another name than VIDEO_TS.
Is that Possible?

Ya you should join these 4 files eigther with media coder or a joiner, and then recode them then rename it after.

Or recode each part then join them together.

So i can't join them with the Ipod Touch device Mediacoder. i have to get over to the "Big" Mediacoder and join it with with him.
