Request for a tutorial

Post by deepman » Thu May 18, 2006 12:51 am

Hello admin,

You have got a great tool here . trancodes almost anything ,congrats. I am sure a lot of people (including myself)get mighty confused how to use it optimally . If you could just create a sort of tutorial for begginers it would be of great help.

Once again thanks for the great tool and the forum .

Hi Stanley.

If you start by giving full codeing methods with the Audio output settings
then I'll give it a go. I wrote a 'freeware' book, The Basics of 'Basic'
programing with full working programs, many years ago, and hundreds of
small utilities with manuals for them.

Old stuff like 'WhiteCat', 'UrlGen' and so on, all FREEWARE. Lots of other
utilities, even to password protect 'Asci' Compiler created files.
UrlGen has over 5 million downloads to date, while Whitecat has around
1 million. All still active. There's some on my alltodays site.
WhiteCat was considered as one of the best at that time, and reviewed in
magazines. So, too was URLGen and others.

Give me the proper Stats, something like:

The FULL range on everything With Left Tab and Right Tab Setings.
eg;
AVI to MPG1 Container to (.MPG1) and all settings for narmal creation
VOB to AVI COntainer to (.AVI)
MP3 to OGG (.ogg)
WAV to oog, lame

Who does What to Whom and Why.
and so on.

Give me everything, that's all I ask.
This will enable me to test all the fields and create the manual around
those, and the settings available.

All the very best
Charles.

Any tutorial, HOWTO or tips is welcome.
Wiki is the way I prefer. It's easier to maintain.

Thank you Charles.
However, I'm sorry that I haven't fully caught your meaning. What do you need?

Settings wanted to create Tutorial

Post by itspete » Fri May 19, 2006 11:36 pm

Yes Stanley. (can I call you Stanley?)

The settings needed will be the ones setup in the two bottom windows
of MediaCoder. These would be General settings nothing more.

Example. My method of doing
VOB to MPG or MPG to MPG

the Right Audio Container Window would contain:-
FFMPEG
Media Layer 2
Audio bitrate 224 or 128 (yes you can use this too for VCD)

Left Audio and Video Window would contain:
Audio source: Mplayer
Encoder: FFMPEG
Resample:44000
Gain:0
Downmix:disabled
Audio ID: 0

and so on..

Just do this for each example.
Any conversion method That MediaCode can produce.
I guess, about six of the most used video conversion methods,
and six audio extractions and conversions would be more than enough.
This will give readers a better understanding on 'How TO...'
rather than trying and failing....which puts them off in the first place.

Do you need a Video and Audio Codec reference? I am not to sure about
this. It could be a different project, which, once done, could be placed
in Wiki.

Any way, I'll let you think about it. Let me know later.

All the best
Charles

A suggested help development path

Post by edgar » Sat May 27, 2006 9:34 am

I guess there are people using MediaCoder but they must have some reference I can't find. I would think that to begin for help just a screenshot with a description of the different sections of the screen.

Second a tutorial of one common conversion might be enough to get most people to a point where they could play around with the one conversion.

Third a table could be created to show settings for other formats.

Finally a tutorial for each conversion could be created.

I'm always waiting for contributors to fill up the lack of user documents (some screenshots and several sentenses) as I really don't have an extra time now.
In addition, I'm adding many device specific transcoding interface, e.g. mobile phone, DVD player. You can already see MediaCoder for mobile phone in the latest update.
