How do you know which mencoder, or mediacoder codecs package

Post by Milardo » Sun Apr 22, 2007 11:13 am

How do you know which mencoder, or mediacoder codecs package to choose in the xtras download area? Do I need the helix producer or wmdec.exe? Anything else to make mediacoder work properly? I have asked this question before but have yet to get an answer.

In most cases, you don't need to install extra stuff. Most commonly needed things are included in the 15M distribution.

He's referring to the full version of MediaCoder. The package is roughly 15 MB in size.

Some add about codecs. wm9decoder.7z package for decoding WMV9 in download area very poorly suited for this, because video produced very blurred (problem of wmv9dmod.dll). The only option (in Windows) that I have found - encode video.wmv through AviSynth (DirectShowSource("video.wmv"). But there is another problem, MediaCoder often report an error when using avs scripts, why I did not find

Another option... just install WMP10 and/or MS Codec Installation Package for WMP7.1 and later.

AviSynth (DirectShowSource)?
AviSynth and necessary filters/codecs to play WMV9 installed?

You can use Source=AVISynth and change from AviSource to AviFileSource or DirectShowSource or OpenDMLSource.
Of course You need install AviSynth.

Ol to Placio74
Before to advise, you need most to make it. 1. At me - it is established WMP11. Only and here WMP? Mplayer (MEncoder) use not its codecs. They use own FFmpeg's libavcodec. 2. I about it also wrote, that when the source of video is used - AviSynth there is the often error of MediaCoder. AviSynth (2.7) at me certainly is established. You tried?
I hope this is not going to insult says

Right.

Right, this is problem.

But...

MediaCoder 0.5.1-r9 (build 2854) - can transcode with Source=AviSynth (DirectShowSource), but not transcode from AVS script.

MediaCoder 0.6.0-pre10 (build 3578) - can transcode from AVS script, but not transcode (crash) with Source=AviSynth (DirectShowSource).

Many other builds can't transcode from AVS script and not transcode (crash) with Source=AviSynth (DirectShowSource).

Ech... maybe some day...
