Weird: x264 doubles the size of former mpeg2 files

Post by KW40 » Sun Dec 02, 2018 8:06 am

I'm encoding my TV recordings, which are in mp4 as well as mpeg2. I'm using variable bitrate with a crf of 18. When I encode mp4 files, everything is fine. They are reduced to about half the size. Whenever MediaCoder / x264 come across mpeg2 files, the size is double the original one. Why?

TIA for your replies.
