Possible to avoid full transcoding ?

Post by Bigbernie » Sat Jan 06, 2018 5:52 am

Good evening everybody
First, excuse my poor English

I always use DLNA and my Smart TV for viewing videos and movies.

It's absolutely impossible using a smart Tv to update or add a video reader. This tool is included in the firmware.
In 3 years long ten firmwares updates but never the video reader.

From a certain time, the TV refuse to read some movies. More and more often
In order to be able to, one soluce : transcoding. I transcode into avi or mkv
But it's not a fair way to do.
A " new" codec is certainly "guilty" but nothing to do with the TV formware. Advanced Video Coding I presume ?

I show you lower 2 documents
What my TV is able to read
What king of movie my TV is unable to read now.

Because what codec ?

Something to do to avoid full transcoding all time ? ( Of course I can see all movies on my PC. But not on my TV.)
Thanks a lot.

TV video config. What movies it's able to read.

Try to enable this option in advanced settings x264: "Flag stream as interlaced but encode progressive".
MEncoder source/Encoder x264 / h264 format/Container mp4 / multiplex mp4box / Remux mp4box enable.

If this setting does not work with the MEncoder source switch to the FFmpeg source keep the encoder x264 / h264 format / container mp4 / multiplex mp4box / remux mp4box enable.

Run transcoding and see if it solves.

Most modern TVs read mp4 see if this option is enabled on tv.

Note that digital video par excellence translates to progressive scanning (the entire frame of the image is sequenced), but the analogue source of the HDTV is shown with the 1080i signal, still coming from the imaging tube technology ( CRT).
If the user's screen is modern, it is possible that the 1080i image is converted to some progressive signal, anyway. In fact, a number of other conversions will have to occur, in default of the user and in an absolutely transparent way.

check your TV settings and enable to read progressive video if you do not want to transcode.

If you do not want to transcode, take a look at your TV settings and see if your TV is enabled to receive progressive video.
