Adding srt *** subs during encoding

Post by Katana » Mon Aug 03, 2015 6:30 am

Hi All, currently using latest version of mediacoder x64 0.8.36.5755. I have problems inserting external subtitles as a stream into a re encode into h265. The source is a h264 Hi10p mkv and I selected mencoder as the source. The subtitle file is a srt with the same filename in the same directory as the video file. I can see the subtitle file selected under the subtitle tab and I use stream copy as the mode.
However after encoding the resulting mkv does not contain the sub as a stream. If I use default render as the subtitle mode then subs are hard coded onto the video. I have tried changing all the parameters to get a srt stream in the encoded file but no joy. Can anyone confirm they have managed to insert an external srt sub into a h264 or h265 encode and what settings they used to get it working?

I think there has always been a problem with this.

your best bet is to use the mkv tools (specifically mkvmergeGUI) to insert the srt directly. you can even chuck in both video files and just select the subs from the source video.
