0.8.30.5620 x265 encoder x86 machine issue ?

Post by lahercoll » Mon May 12, 2014 10:27 am

I just switched to MC 0.8.30.5620 and x265 encoder don't work - Everything was fine with 0.8.29.5608 so I reinstalled it...I'm running a win7 x86 machine , so I guess there is a problem with new MC version on x86 machine; is it correct ?

Is MC installer going to be updated/fixed ? Anyone else with same problem ?

I just tried the 32-bit version of MediaCoder 0.8.30.5620 and it works fine with x265. I'm using a 64-bit OS but that shouldn't make a difference.
It may have been corrected already so you might want to try redownloading the installer (I used the full version).
In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.

Yes , it could make a difference. It's possible to run many x32 applications on x64 machine, but NOT THE OPPOSITE (x64 app. on x86 machine).
Right now, I'm encoding a video; I'll try the new installer (I use the full version as well) later.
Please, could you test the 32-bit version of MediaCoder 0.8.30.5620 x265 encoder on a 32-bit machine ?
It looks to me like the x265 encoder 64-bit has been implemented on BOTH MediaCoder versions (32-bit and 64-bit) . Thanks

Running a 32-bit program on a 64-bit OS should be the same as running the 32-bit program on a 32-bit OS? The reason you can't run 64-bit applications on 32-bit OS is because the program is designed around the x86_64 instruction set which is an extension of the normal x86 instruction set (which is what 32-bit applications use).
In any case, I don't have easy access to any 32-bit computers. And regarding your suggestion of the 64-bit encoder being coded into 32-bit version of the program, I believe there was the same problem before in a previous version. It would be up to Stanley to recheck that though.

Yes, same problem was with version 5600 - after a few days has been fixed.
Now I think there is same problem again with version 5620-
Can you contact Stanley and ask him to check ?

There is a bug report section in the forums where you can post any bugs. This will allow other people having the same issue to check and confirm whether it is a valid bug or not.

Also note that people who respond to this Forum, such as HuggiL, the Moderator, and meRobs, are just users like yourselves and not part of a development team. There is one developer: Stanley.
