Help: Aspect Ratios/resolutions

Post by Wander » Thu Oct 20, 2011 9:14 pm

Good afternoon,
Sorry if my English is not the best, I'm using the Google translator. I do not know if this is the most proper to put my doubts.

I have some doubts with the resolutions and aspect ratios that I will use when using MediaCoder to make encodes.
So is the following:
I downloaded the movie Kung Fu Panda 2 2011, is an MKV with 27 Mbps (remuxed was, so there is an M2TS), has 2 audio streams and many other subtitles.

Using MediaInfo get the 1920x1080 resolution (16 / 9), but I noticed that in several releases that are out of this film, which
720p: get 1280x544 (aspect ratio 2.35:1), as the 1080p releases, get 1920x816 (aspect ratio 2.35:1).

I want to encode the movie to have spoken up, but do not know q setting to use the aspect ratio in order to get 1280x544 encode, since MediaCoder does not have this pre-defined resolution, 1280x720 so behind.
Does it choose 1280x720 and maintaining the aspect ratio, MediaCoder is automatically set to 720p in fewer lines?

Already now I wonder why is the file is untouched M2TS/MKV 1920x1080, when it is recoded to launch the downloads, he gets 544 or 816, and never get the 720 or 1080. Why?
I do not know if I did understand what he wanted.

Thank you,
Hugs.

I suggest you read the Guide on Aspect Ratios at viewtopic.php?f=17&t=8197&start=0.
It is also listed under Tips & Guides (link below).
Please read and re-read this guide until you understand the ideas.

You might also need the Guide on Cropping at: viewtopic.php?f=17&t=8188&start=0

Hope these help.

In older versions, just type 1280x544 in the resize window. No idea of present versions.

X264 will however retain the DAR of the original, so you may have to alter it later with an app if the dimensions convert to 1280x544 , but play back at 1.778:1 instead of 2.35:1
