I cannot understand your question.
The frame rate is usually fixed and constant throughout a video.
Secondly, VBR stands for Variable Bit Rate of the video stream.
The alternatives, on the Video tab, for bit rate are Average BR, Variable BR and Constant BR, etc.

Actually the frame rate can fluctuate. Try setting the frame rate rather than just using original or no setting.

If you mean bit rate, that is different.

its because when i try remuxing an h.264 stream into mov, sometimes i get vbr framerates, some videos it happens, some it doesnt..

left is regular file, on the right is the remuxed version:

i remux the h264 streams into .mov so i can open the video as frames with a certain program i use to make gifs

I doubt whether the variation in frame rate would be signficant, depsite the large range indicated in the header and I cannot see why it would make a difference if all you wanted was to capture some frames for 'gifts'. In any case, there are many programs that can capture frames as JPEG, etc, from AVI, MPEG2, etc, without the need to remux.

I cannot understand why you use the term remux, which means combining the audio & video into a container, because you have no audio.
You could just as easily get a video only file by converting with audio disabled??

I have the opposite problem. I have a VFR (variable frame rate) source file and want to preserve the variable frame rate in the output file.

So, ladycoder, if I understand you correctly, if I leave the output frame rate as "original" I would get a VFR output file? MediaCoder is latest version (umm... don't have the version number handy, I just downloaded it a couple days ago), output file is H264 AAC mp4 (and does this support VFR?)

If I recall, if the frame rate is variable and you set a specific rate, (converting from rmvb or some foul container :) ), it will force more constant frame rate.

With no harddup and VBR, the rate may truly stay VBR as no extra frames will be added to keep it constant.
