Post by koldblud » Fri May 09, 2008 12:37 pm

Is there a way to convert dvd to xvid with a specified file size?
for example: dvd 4.7gb to CD-R 700mb ...so i can fit it to a cd-r ?

Please tell me this isn't true!

A new program that doesn't have an option to encode to a certain size!

What a **** shame! I quite liked the look of this program too. Guess its back to AutoGK / Vdub for me.

I'm not faffing around with bitrate calculators.. did all that 5 years ago!

You need to use bitrate calculation for VDub, too.

WooHooo! You did It!

Thanks very much. It seems, reading through the forum, that nobody noticed that before. There are a few threads asking for the same thing.
Many thanks.
I'll give it a try.

I probably won't either... it's just habit really. When I use H264 I always encode to a bitrate.
With XviD its normally to size.

Oh BTW.. I *STILL* have to faff about because the value in the setup is in Kb.. now how many kb are there in 175mb again? Do you know off the top of your head? No! Neither do 99.9% of people.. so Why put the option in kb? Why not in Mb which is what most encodes will be in...

SO far today.. People have suggested I use bit rate calculators and now I need a kb/Mb calculator http://www.weitzenegger.de/en/to/kbmb.html

Sheesh! Codeheads!!!

Ok first attempt..

A vob to XviD avi

25 mins 3 secs long

I set the target at 179200kb (175mb)

The output file was 143928kb (140.5mb)

So not a good first attempt.. AutoGK normally gets it at about..165mb ish

The options in Mediacoder say to make it more accurate set the AUDIO encoder to Bit-Rate based .
I used lame at 128k CBR so shouldn't be a prob. Ah well.. keep playing
