Crunch Those MPGs and convert VOB to Same (all in one).

Post by itspete » Thu May 18, 2006 12:27 am

There's something I came across while messing about with MediaCoder.

MediaCoderVs 0.3.9 build 1902 onwards

Remember to set the ASPECT RATIO in Settings->Video Codecs-FFMPEG

I have K-Lite Codec Pack installed my system with updated.
If you have everything installed, the results should be the same.

Try this...
MPG VCD complient (and others).

VOB and MPG's to small MPG's. YES...THEY WORK PERFECTLY and work on VCD's. Now, that's something to have.

Settings:

(includes a crop)

Audio:
Source: MPlayer (See below for settings)
Encoder: FFMPEG Audio Codec (see below for smaller files)
Resample: 44100
Gain: 0
Downmix: Disabled Auto ID: 0

FFMPEG set for MPEG LAYER2 with Bitrate at 224 ( 128 will be fine as
well. Even smaller files).

Video:
Stream 1152 Fixed or (DEFAULT, change between 500 to 650 VOBs and 250 onwards for MPG. Watch for Flaring on Faces, signs etc within resulting film. Set accordingly.)
Format: MPG-1
Bitrate Control: By desired Stream
NOTE!!
=====
Bitrate Control: Could/Should use compression method: 04.000 for MPG and 20/22.000 for VOB conversion (Works a treat).

Container Format: MPEG with MPG options set for MPEG-1 nothing else!!

Picture: If settings if required
Resize to 352 x 288
Crop: 0:116:720:400 (was divided by Eight)
Aspect Ratio: 1.800:1

Rotation: Disabled
Frame Rate: 25.000
Post Processing: Do Not Selected
Temporal Denoiser: Not Used
3D Denoiser: Not Used
DeInterlace: Not Used

Pass string would look like this:-

".\mplayer\mencoder.exe" "$(SourceFile)" -vf scale=352:288:0:0::,pp=de -ofps 25.000 -ovc xvid -xvidencopts max_bframes=2:me_quality=6:quant_type=h263:vhq=0:nointerlacing:noqpel:nogmc:trellis:chroma_me:chroma_opt:hq_ac:nopacked:bitrate=$(VideoBitrate) -oac lavc -lavcopts acodec=mp2:abitrate=224 -af resample=44100:1:0 -o "$(DestFile)"

Audio:
".\codecs\ffmpeg.exe" -f wav -i "$(SourceFile)" -ac $(ChannelNum) -acodec mp2 -ab 224 "$(DestFile)"
--------------

or this
(no crop but 325x288)

".\mplayer\mencoder.exe" "$(SourceFile)" -vf scale=352:288:0:0::,pp=de -ofps 25.000 -ovc xvid -xvidencopts max_bframes=2:me_quality=6:quant_type=h263:vhq=0:nointerlacing:noqpel:nogmc:trellis:chroma_me:chroma_opt:hq_ac:nopacked:bitrate=$(VideoBitrate) -oac lavc -lavcopts acodec=mp2:abitrate=224 -af resample=44100:1:0 -o "$(DestFile)"

Audio:
".\codecs\ffmpeg.exe" -f wav -i "$(SourceFile)" -ac $(ChannelNum) -acodec mp2 -ab 224 "$(DestFile)"

--------------

Keep Original Aspect: (7,353KB MPG created, still very small indeed.)

".\mplayer\mencoder.exe" "$(SourceFile)" -vf pp=de -ofps 25.000 -ovc xvid -xvidencopts max_bframes=2:me_quality=6:quant_type=h263:vhq=0:nointerlacing:noqpel:nogmc:trellis:chroma_me:chroma_opt:hq_ac:nopacked:bitrate=$(VideoBitrate) -oac lavc -lavcopts acodec=mp2:abitrate=224 -af resample=44100:1:0 -o "$(DestFile)"

Audio:

".\codecs\lame.exe" "$(SourceFile)" "$(DestFile)" --priority 1 -r -x -s $(SampleRate) --vbr-new -V 9 -q 0 -k --replaygain-fast --quiet

===========================

D).
Small MPG back to NORMAL size MPG: Use other Converters settings (as is) or these settings for....

E).
Normal MPG to SMALL MPG.
------------------------
Use same settings as C). but remove CROP and RESIZE.
20,211KB MPG will crunch down from 4,606KB to 10,000KB (I am going to re-do all my stuff now to this after a few alterations on Codecs).

F). SMALL file MPG to Small File MPG.....
What Happens? Just a slight crunch down in size...But YES...IT WORKS..PERFECTLY!!!

I've now added 20 more of my own Karaoke creations on one VCD. From 21/23 to 31/43 files on one VCD. Now That's Better!! You add more with higher compression.

You can now have a proper 1hour 45minute file on a VCD with good video quality. I created one using one of my chinese films. Perfect!!

BEST VCD CREATOR with all the necessary features including, Key setups, Chapters and Interactivity. must be VCDEasy.
Nothing else so far has those features and strictly sticks to VCD complience rules, Unless you know of one better! Let me know, please.

Don't forget to adjust the settings on the codec you need to convert with.
eg;
DivX
suggested settings:
----------------------
Quality setings: Select ALL. ( If you want to 'tweek' Brightness etc, Do not tick Yuv Extended Mode).

Post-Processing:- Untick ALL
Set Deblockinf to 50% on slider.
Deringing to MIN.
Film effect: Tick it, Set slider to 25% (quarter of the way).
Select OK at bottop of it's window.

NEW... NEW...NEW
---------------------
You can now get up to 2 hours and 30 minute film/or individual films on one VCD.
HOW????
Extracting VOBs to MPG using ChrissyBoys VOB2MPG 2.3
Then Use MediaCoder on resulting MPG, set settings above to create your super crunched file ready to place onto a VCD. Total time: about 30minutes for final creation for Ready MPG. 2 films, about 45minutes to an Hour, depending.
Or you could use DVD Shrink on the DVD, then Nero's Rencode and select a smaller output size, squeeze film to the smallest possible and finally use MediaCoder (settings above) for final MPGs ready to place on a VCD.
Finally use VCDEasy or something similar to create your final viewing VCD. Nero will not pass this type of file for either VCD or DVD creation,
so use something that will. The results are worth working towards.

Note: When creating VCDs, do not use write speed more than 4. Although you could use higher, it does not mean that a standalone DVD players will load it. 4 Speed seems to be the best. It gives gives proper results and ensures that any VCD\DVD player will load and run it correctly.

CD-DW Blanking:
I suggest that you erase a VCD in 4speed mode.
If you don't have this facility, try Nero's DiskSpeed program.
On installation select 'ALL Users'. You should have all the speeds listed for
your CD\DVD writer, which can now be selected.

UPDATE (21May 2006)
-------------------------
Selecting Lame MP3 as codec for both Source(input) and
Destination(Convert to), with the Converted sound track as 128 will
produce very very small files. You should use the settings above.
VCDeasy will pass this type of format. You must ensure that the
Container is MPG1. That's how to get double the capacity on a VCD.

Last Update on this subject (31st May 2006)
--------------------------------------------------
If you want other DVD\VCD creators to use this type of file,
just run it through some other converter, Or Try to FORCE the ASPECT
RATIO
in MediaCoder when creating. Note. The 'Force' command in
'Settings' of MediaCoder has been updated, it will work.

To get Lip Sync working correctly...try this...
Example: Frame Rate of 1152 and Audio rate is 224
If you use Audio as 128 (224/2) then frame rate you divide by 2=576
In general, I found that whatever you divide Audio Bitrate by, you
should do the same with Frame Rate. The resulting numbers MUST
be whole numbers (no decimal place).
-------------------------
Please let me know if you find any FREE VCD and DVD creators that have
at least the same facilities as VCDEasy and PASS this type of format as a
VCD\DVD.

Please don't post questions here, use 'Questions And Answers' forum.

If you know other settings please join the FREE forum and email me.
It will help everyone if you do this.

Let's see What else you can come up with....

All the best
Charles.
