Another thing you won't be able to use is VfW (Video for Windows).

Well I guess thats another drawback :? but who knows There might be other alternatives to that. I know I'll be searching for those :D and I'll be posting some updates about my progress and also maybe some screenshots too if I can get each function going ;)

How long do you figure it will take to port over to Linux?

maybe it's not a very good question, but will you be able to actualize mediacoder for linux easily? cause it's a often updated app.
MediaCoder settings:

x264 (backend/source: mencoder, fps: 23,976, Fabio Sonatti's settings) + nero aac 64 in matroska

May not be a good question, but it's a question none the less. In fact your question is good as well. Are you going to be dedicated in updating MediaCoder for Linux thibeaz just as much as stanley updates the windows version?

Well to answer

Well to answer all your questions I am going to try and keep it updated but I can't really be sure I can do it my self maybe if I had an organized team to help out *hint hint nudge nudge* we may be able to be up to date with Stanely's release. As for how long it would take to create a working release might be a little while yet as I am still working command lines for each app and all that jazz

Just thought i would post
i have Mediacoder 3792 running nicely on Ubuntu 7.04

Everything goes fine, it does the file, at about 17fps in comparison to vista at 20fps.

But it seems to hang when it gets to

# ".\tools\mp4box.exe" -keep-all -sbr -add "C:\windows\temp\aaf-solo.avi.aac"#au
dio -fps 23.976024 -add "C:\windows\temp\aaf-solo.avi.m4v"#video "c:\windows\program files\james\Desktop\aaf-solo.mp4"

Everything is fine if mencoder is the muxer, but if mp4box is the muxer it just hangs.

My container of choice is mp4 though with x264 and aac+ audio. Anyone got any ideas why mp4box fails?

So any suggestions to get mp4box to work would be appreciated.

could you make a guide how you got MediaCoder running on Ubuntu? I use Ubuntu, too (quite new to this) and I love it's stable and study environment. the only thing missing right now is a nice converter. As I like MediaCoder very much I have to boot Vista in order to convert my videos.
